What is a fresco?Plaster painting,art and object.

Abstract

Fresco is likely a wall painting. This method is water-based pigment on freshly applied on the plasters and usually on wall surfaces. The intonaco(layer of fresh, damp lime plaster)absorbs and binds the pigment as it dries making the picture a permanent part of the wall surface. The intonaco is applied in sections called daily sections.Fresco painting is an ideal for making like murals because it lends itself to a monumental style,is durable, and has a matte surface.

-The size of each giornata(daily sections)depends on the artist's estimate of how much can be painted before the plaster set.In fresco painting has three methods to successive coats of specially prepared plaster, sand, and marbles trowel onto a wall. Each of the first two rough coats is applied and then allowed to dry and harden. The junctions between giornate are sometimes visible on a finished fresco. The range of colours used in buon fresco are limited to lime-resistant pigment such as earth colours(below). The boundaries of this area are confined carefully along contour lines,so that the edges,or joints,of each successive section of fresh plastering are imperceptible.

–We can produce the fresco white with the elements of slaked lime(burnt lime mixed with water),bianco di san giovanmi(slaked lime that has been partly exposed to air),and chalk are the best ingredients to the the white.A correctly prepared intonaco will hold its moisture for many hours.

Ingredients for fresco white

-Chalk

-Marble slab for mixing ingredients

-Bianco di san giovanni

-Slaked lime

Examples for earth colour pigment

-Raw umber

-Red earth(iron oxide)

-Green earth

-Raw sienna

The lime and sand forgive the best collection of colours permanence and resist to aging, since they are in integral part of the wall surface, rather than a superimposed layer of paint on it,and the medium of fresco colours makes great demands of the painters technical skills. Then the pigment are not completely absorbed into the plaster and may off over time.
